Hi,
I always used mySQL for my PHP sites, but I have never learned how to really take advantage of a database, since I always used pre-made scripts. Is mySQL worth learning, or should I look for Oracle SQL for instance? Which one is going to be the future standard, in your opinion?

All of them if you can soak up that much knowledge.

MySQL should be on the top of your list. In your case, knowing how your PHP scripts interact with MySQL is vital, especially if you are using OS applications that allow you to modify to suit.

MySQL is the current standard as far as free OS db's are concerned. The developer community is large, diverse and isn't going away anytime soon.

The neat thing about the closed source DB's is that the internet offers a vast amount of free hands on training - so you can learn alot about them without spending a dime.

I definitely agree. If you are in the programming business, or even just a touch of the IT industry, you know a little bit of databases such as MySQL.

It is not hard to learn this kinds of database for there are lots of tutorials given in the internet.

About Oracle, if you know about it and really can solve problems with it. You can have the opportunity to apply for big companies using Oracle.
