Hi,
I am looking to rent a dedicated server to run my website. I have never done this before so I would like some help. What are the features I should look at when evaluating such a service? How much bandwidth do I need for an average sized website? (there's no particular graphics, just some PHP and CSS layouts). Do you recommend any particular provider? Thanks!

I've noted Layered Tech in another recent post. There are quite a few good packages that would be a good fit for your requirements, specifically the Intel Celeron 2.4G package. I tend to stay away from the Celerons because I use Mysql (alot) in every site I own(several to a server). The Celerons seem to botttom out when you have to many concurrent sql connections - even with MySql/apache/PHP tuning.

But if you're just serving static pages, with a little PHP and CSS it seems like a bargain :

Without going in depth too far - I'll point you to a tutorial I stared a couple of weeks ago about getting your own server. The tutorial needs to be finished and updated, but it's a good place to start I think :
