After the rather 'forced' popularity of Windows Media Audio, Microsoft's engineers have come up with an intense and promising rival to JPEG compression - Windows Media Photo.

JPEGs, as we all know, have seen heavy use for so many years. It's a very reliable format for pictures, despite the presence of a bunch of other formats out there.

And now, Microsoft wants to kick it off it's throne.

However, it showcased some very surprising results, beating the JPEG's compression ratio by bounds.

Hmmm, MSN really wants to dominate the IT industry. The only thing I don't like about MSN is that there price for their softwares are high compared to other companies. But the quality of MSN is what I really like and I guess the program is worth buying for even how expensive it is.

About the JPEG, I think it will not matter much for there is a photoshop already. But who knows what will be the advantages that MSN will make compare to photoshop.

The question there is if Adobe, Corel and other graphic-intensive products will follow suit, and add Windows Media Photo to their roster of supported formats.

The way it looks, I think it will. But time will tell - Microsoft is most henious for producing flaws and security holes.

For sure, Microsoft will have to succeed on its plans. I just checked the link that you have posted and they have already made it into licensed software. That means its already working and being sold already.
