In this tutorial, you will learn about designing header and navigation bar with simple but effective way.
Basic header and navigation bar
Create a new file of 740 x 124 pixel.
Create new layer and draw a 740 x 86 pixel wide selection from Rectangular Marquee tool.
Set white as foreground and #B3D2F0 as background color. Fill the selection with the help of gradeitn tool from top to bottom.
Press 'D' to change the colors to default. Again, select #70889F as foreground color and draw a rectangle with the help of Rectangle tool.
Select this layer by control+clicking on its name in layer pallate.
Change the foreground color to #8095AA. Use foreground to transperent gradient to fill the selection as shown in the picture.
Add some text and custom shapes. Our simple header is ready.

Now we will create navigation bar.
Create another layer. Use rectangular marquee tool to draw a 740 x 86 wide selection, 1 pixel below the header.
Use light grey (#D6D6D6) as foreground and white as background color.
Fill the selection with the gradient tool.
Also add drop shadow in it.
Draw two lines, one of white color and second of light grey color.
Group & merge these layers and move them as per your requirements to create navigation buttons.
Add some text and custom shapes. Our nav. bar is ready.
